Listing Attributes continued...

I certainly enjoyed reading your responses to the 'Listing Attributes' blog. I like that many of you are commenting (positively) to what your classmates are writing and adding on to their ideas, keep it up! This is an exercise in brainstorming mathematically. Remember to think of new ideas, do not repeat what has already been suggested.

Let's start thinking more about how to solve this problem now. Will you choose Polya's method? Will you use a Problem Solving strategy, if so which one? How will you organize your ideas?

Before you begin, take a moment to go back and read the replies to the previous blog.

Finally, those of you who replied to the previous blog before November 12th, will receive 5 points extra credit.

You are doing great, let's keep it going!
Ms. Tripp

  1. Question-A printer uses 837 digits to number the pages of a book. How many pages are there in the book?

Answer-Like I said before it was 418. Here is my equation,837 minus 2 divided by 2 equals 418.(The subtracting 2 was for the front and back cover).

  4. Me, personaly would use the bar diagram. To me it can compare in a way how to set things out.
    _________837____________
    | | | |
    |_9|_____207|___404______|
    Single-Double-Triple(DIGITS)
    9+(99*2)=207 107+(99*3)=404 837-511=326
    DIGITS DIGITS -216=110
    ___ 9*12=108+2=110 511+14=525 |525|
    PAGES IS MY ANSWER

  5. My post above got messed up, so here are the equations I used.

    9+(99*2)=207Digits (9=single Pages/99=Double)
    108 pgs
    207+(99*3)=404(99in this one=triple)
    108 pgs+99=207
So far I have 511 Digits, I need 110 More.

    9*12=108+2=110digits which is also 14pgs.
221 IS MY ANSWER( I PUT THE WRONG ONE ABOVE)

  8. First of all i would start with 837 pages. By subtracting the the front cover and the back the number is now 835. Since there are two page numbers on a page then you would divide 835 by 2.

    Equation: 837 - 2 = 835/2 = 417.5 (rounded)= 418!

    Answer: 418 pages
